What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free tool from Google that shows you what visitors do on your website. How many people came, where they came from, what they looked at, and how long they stayed.

What It Tells You

Google Analytics answers basic questions about your visitors. Are people finding the site? Where are they coming from, search engines, social media, or somewhere else? Which pages are they actually reading? Are they leaving immediately or sticking around?

For most small businesses, that is enough to know whether the site is doing its job. A site with steady traffic and people reading multiple pages is working. A site with no traffic or visitors who leave in seconds has a problem worth investigating.

Why It Matters

Without analytics, the business is guessing. The site might be quietly bringing in customers from a specific search term and the owner would never know. Or it might be losing every visitor on the contact page because the form is broken and nobody has tested it in a year.

Analytics turns guesses into evidence. The numbers show what is actually happening, not what the owner hopes is happening.

How It Pairs With Search Console

Google Analytics shows what visitors do once they reach the site. Google Search Console shows how they got there. Both tools are free and both are essential. One without the other leaves half the picture missing.
